Weingut Höfler

weingut-hoefler_2011.jpg

Vineyard size: 6.5 hectares

The wine estate is located close to the Lower Main River, at the Western edge of the Spessart Forest, and in the Franconian wine town of Michelbach. The vineyards are located at the Northwestern edge of the Franconian wine region.  Evidence suggests that wine has been grown in this area for about a thousand years.

The personal winegrowing tradition started in 1924, when the brothers Josef and Richard Höfler purchased abandoned vineyards, cleared the brush and planted grapevines, all by hand. The grapes from these vineyards are processed and allowed to ferment in the own wine cellar.

The next generation of the Höfler family, Irmgard and Karl, are increasing the size of the vineyard, building a new winery including a new cellar and utility buildings, and are gradually switching production from barrels to bottled wines.
